We saw Skyfall last night, and it was extraordinary; not just the performances, though Judi Dench is otherworldly and Daniel Craig is his usual lovely craggy grouchy talented self, but something about the lighting of it, specifically, moved me in the same way that watching The Hour last year did. The power of light and shadow, as allegory, as emotion, simply as light and shadow. It was glorious and gorgeous, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it. I enjoy Bond films, as a rule, and I have particularly enjoyed Craig as Bond, but something about Skyfall hit me in my artist’s chest in a way that was bigger than just a Bond film. Recommended.
