Yep Roc’s Jesca Hoop played a quietly delicate set to a small crowd at the West End Wine Bar; an off-night from touring with the Punch Brothers, she writes intricate and shimmering songs in the vein of Sharon Van Etten and plays them with an electric kick like Carrie Brownstein. She had her voice reigned in last night — West End isn’t a big place — but even quiet, you can tell she has that vocal power behind everything she does. I was glad Yep Roc tipped me off to the set, because I dug what I heard hardcore.
Jesca’s new album, The House That Jack Built, is out June 26 on Yep Roc. A handful of other photos from last night are here.
