The Maternal Unit is also into eating, so she was totally down with my life list goal of eating all 100 foods on Our State’s 100 Foods To Eat In NC’s 100 Counties. We knocked out two together, Pickled Carolina Collards w/ Habanero Peppers from Angela’s Pepper-Pickled Foods (New Hanover County) and Conch Fritters at the Yacht Basin Provision Co. in Southport (Brunswick County). The pickled collards were great, and I have half a jar left. (Although I just realized I left it in the fridge at the beach house. Whoops. Enjoy, parentals.) The conch fritters were odd in a good way; I could describe neither taste nor texture to you, but I enjoyed them.
On my way home, I stopped in Sanford and met a lovely dude, and he obliged me by going to Jackson Bros BBQ (Lee County) with me; the food on the list is the Mitchell’s Chow Chow that they sell, but I substituted. Sorry, chow chow. I’m not a big relish person. But the barbeque was really excellent, and the cole slaw was superb, and the company was good.
So that’s three of 100, and now it’s started. Someone else is going to have to come eat the livermush for me, though. Because ew.
