I had the pleasure yesterday of getting to spend a couple of hours shooting the members of Mandolin Orange and Sinful Savage Tigers, plus out-of-towner Josh Oliver (formerly of the Everybodyfields) and last minute surprise Josh Moore, while they futzed around filming official video sessions for the Bottom String, but also just goofing off with supergroup covers and jams. SST did two gorgeous backyard recordings in the cool fall sunshine, Mandolin Orange absolutely slayed an acoustic version of “Never Die”, and everyone piled onto the couch for a Josh Oliver fronted “Drink Up And Go Home”.
But the highlight? The highlight was when Josh Moore walked in the front door, picked up a guitar, and (backed by MO, Josh Oliver, and SST’s Seth Barden on upright) absolutely slayed a cover of Merle Haggard’s “Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down” in one take. Sadly the only thing that technology failed us on was a supergroup version of “The Long Black Veil”, but I’ll share the sessions when Grant gets them up next week. For now, behind the jump, a load of photos, and more here.
