For the third year running, Heather Cook orchestrated a gorgeous benefit show for the arts programs at Durham’s Central Park Charter School, and it was a perfect kind of local music evening. Good bands, good company, good food (learned: cannot shoot and eat Only Burger at the same time; alas), in a gorgeous new venue full of people happy to support a fantastic cause.
I enjoyed everything about the night, but the highlight, for me, were the teenagers from the Poetic Justice program, who got up in front of a packed benefit crowd and did stunning spoken word poetry. They were all gorgeous and brave and talented, and it was amazing.
The whole evening was perfect, really. It makes me proud to be part of this community, it makes me want to work harder to give back. Last night inspired me. Now I need to figure out what to do with that.
Sounds like a great experience, keep moving, stuff happens.
