We’re having one of those “North Carolina cold snaps”, by which I mean I actually have to run the heat in my car in the mornings on my way to work, not that we’re actually having Cold Weather As Defined By People Who Actually Have Winter. Regardless, after more than four years here, my blood is thin and wimpy, and I would prefer that North Carolina not attempt to pretend we have seasons other than The Intense Misery Of July, August And Inevitably The Weekend Of The NCAA Baseball Regional Because God Hates Us For Hating Matt Harvey, and The Rest Of The Year.

So today, four versions of my favorite of all favorite traditional Christmas songs:

[The Trekky Yuletide Orchestra — “In The Bleak Midwinter”] 8MB, .mp3. Orchestral indie pop.

[Beth Whitney — “In The Bleak Midwinter”] 6MB, .mp3. Probably my favorite version of all I’ve got. What a voice.

[James Taylor — “In The Bleak Midwinter”] 6MB, .mp3. If you like James Taylor, you will like this version of this song.

[David Karsten Daniels — “In The Bleak Midwinter”] 5MB, .mp3. Whenever I listen to a random DKD track, I’m reminded that I should listen to him more.

David and James came to me via Ash, so I owe her for that. One of my favorite versions of this song is actually by Crash Test Dummies, of all bands, but the version I’ve got is DRM’ed, damn Steve Jobs of four years ago.

I think this song is gorgeous and haunting, no matter who’s singing it.

MP3s are for sampling purposes only; if you enjoy what you hear, please support the artists by purchasing their music. Files are available for a limited time only.
