Love these boys like crazy. Jonny shredded the head on his floor tom Saturday night, and it was glorious and hilarious to watch; a perfect ending to a fantastic set. When they finally get around to finishing and releasing their next album, it’s going to be tremendous.

Unrelatedly, a great number of people in other internet arenas where I hang out are going nuts about these photos of Alexander Skarsgard, and while I will freely admit that he’s got an interesting, attractive face, mostly I’m vaguely annoyed because I don’t think the photos themselves, technically and compositionally, are very good. The light is all wrong, the shadows are all wrong, a lot of them are framed really weirdly. The fourth one from the left on the top row is good, and the one on the far right on the bottom row is excellent, and all of them are more than serviceable as promo shots, but mostly I couldn’t separate subject from execution — and not that I could have done better, but I still don’t think they’re all that, and I was vaguely upset to find my mindset in looking at them so out of step with a community I used to be deeply and thoroughly entrenched in.

C’est la vie, I suppose. That’s what happens when you look at the world as if through a 50mm lens: a photo is almost never just a photo.
