baseball: buffalo bison (cleveland aaa) @ durham bulls (tampa bay aaa)

One from the archives; July 2008.

There’s 5 minor league teams within 120 miles of Carrboro, if you count Kinston and we almost do, plus a handful more if you’re willing to go 3 hours out, so that’s what I’ll be doing with my summer: watching minor league baseball.

I love major league ball and I miss the Yard like mad, but there’s something about minor league ball that’s scratching every itch I’ve got lately. I’ve been a baseball fan all my life, but I never thought I’d turn into one of those people who knew as much about the college game, the draft, and the minors as I did about the majors, and yet, here I am, rooting for LSU to beat Texas so that the Cubs can convert DJ LeMahieu to third base and eventually have an infield composed of three Cajun ex-national champs and Derrek Lee.

I’ve got to entertain myself somehow, as long as I don’t have a job.

I used to say that the only thing the Triangle lacked, for me, was good public transportation, Ethiopian food, and major league baseball. I miss that last one less and less the longer I’m here.
